Problem Solving Theory
Unit 1Research Paper 1: Paradigm Shift
Introduction
NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATION allows wireless communication and the exchange of data between digital devices, like smart phones. NFC is somewhat like Bluetooth at first glance. NFC is an extension of radio-frequency identification (RFID) Except NFC is designed for devices that are close in proximity. There are three forms of NFC technology all are similar but communicate in different ways. These include types A, B and, FeliCa. FeliCa is frequently found in Japan. Devices using NFC may be active or passive. A passive device like an NFC tag is like a sign it is designed to transmit information. An active device like a smart phone would not only be able to gather information from things like NFC tags but could also change the information on the tag if authorized.
Summary of Key Findings
I think that within twenty years NFC will change the way we live in many ways. Like contactless payments NFC has a short range of about 1 ½ inches which is a good reason to use it for secure transactions such as contactless credit or debit transactions. Simply wave your NFC device in front of an NFC scanner and your payment is done. But not only that, it can find all your NFC based coupons and customer loyalty cards and automatically apply them to your purchase. Imagine that no more need fumble through your purse or wallet to find all your cards and coupons. They will all be in one easy to access place.
NFC devices will be helpful in health care. It will be able to store your medical records. It could provide what medical treatments a patient should receive and witch doctors and nurses have checked in with a patient. All of which could be kept on a NFC tag bracelet for each patient to ware around their wrist.
NFC will also give you an ease of use. You could invite a friend to play a two player game just by touching your
