Unit 2 Assignment 1 Compare And Contrast Classroom

I noticed a big difference between the settings of the two classrooms I observed. The first classroom is Mrs. Thune’s first grade class at Sunrise Elementary. The classroom is very large for the twenty students and has plenty of windows. The entire room has a frog theme and leaping to learn motto. I noticed every wall had some type of teaching tool. Her walls are covered with resources and it all ties back into the frog theme to give a nice overall look. There is also a big lily pad floor mat in front of the Promethean board in the center of the room. The organization in the room is very neat and everything has a place. There is a corresponding drawer for every subject that the children can pull out and all the books are organized by theme or beginning letter. In addition, the cupboards in the room have books above with the corresponding stuffed animal to the book. On the other hand, Mrs. Karch’s third grade class at Lincoln Elementary differs with its classroom setting. The classroom is extremely small for twenty one third graders but has the same layout as the first classroom setting. Not to mention, the classroom feels crammed because of the lack of classroom space.
Karch disciplines with the use of lightning five to gain attention in the classroom and counting down. The students also do calming moves and use fidgety tools to control their emotions. In addition, the assessments for every student is on the side counter in their own binder. This is a different way to determine and keep track of the concepts they are expected to know. I noticed a bigger use of computers in the classroom when learning about math facts compared to Mrs. Thune’s classroom. She uses the lecture method to teach the students core lessons and inquiry with their fellow classmates. However, she allows a lot of individual problem solving then big group activities. She also has many students with special needs and she receives a lot of help from aids or
