Absolutism and Constitutionalism
February 11, 2015
What unforeseen impact did Absolutism have on the creation of Constitutionalism?
Between 16001800 people wanted a constitutionalism government instead of an absolutism type of government. In constitutionalism people had more freedom and could believe in what they want to. In absolutism everything that was done revolved around the king and people were not treated fairly. The unforeseen impact of absolutism that led to constitutionalism was that people rose up to gain sovereignty, equality, and the unjust actions that were made towards people who did not agree with the king.
A problem for people is that they did not have any sovereignty. “Table of ranks offered the privileges of nobility to anyone who performed state service and made service to the state the principal basis for privilege…” (Peter, The Revolutionary Tzar) Peter the great believed that if you served the stated you could be moved to a higher rank and gain authority and that would lead to constitutionalism. People eventually gained sovereignty and formed a constitutionalism type of government. In absolutism everything was revolved around the king and people were not treated equally. “Man is born free, but he is everywhere in chains” (Rousseau) That is saying every man is born free but they actually don't get treated equally because they are controlled by the king.
“The natural liberty of man is to be free from any superior power on earth, and to not be under the will or legislative authority of man, but to have only the law of native to his rule.” ( John
Cooper 2
Locke) People are born equal and should not be judged or treated differently by what he or she believes in and people started believing this and it formed constitutionalism. Man should be treated equally and not everything should be centered around the king.
There was unjust things towards certain people because of their beliefs.
