There are two different modules of health. The Bio-Medical model and the socio-medical model. The Bio-Medical model relates to the body, it focuses on the environmental factors that cause illness or my changes in the body that happen... The bio-medical model believes that people are mostly not at fault when they are ill because illness is caused by factors out of their control and that illness should be cured by medical intervention which they believe is only the responsibility of the medical profession. The bio-medical model has no relationship with sociological and psychological factors.
Some weaknesses of the bio-medical model are that it tries to reduce all explanations of health and illness into smaller factors, this is a weakness because the human body is complicated and by simplifying the explanations it is ignoring other factors such as social, psychological and genetic, also the bio-medical model ignores other factors that could cause ill-health it just focuses on the cause as well as this the bio-medical model believe the body and mind do not effect each other but in cases like depression we see this is wrong.
The socio-Medical model relates to the persons mood and environment, it focuses on the social factors that contribute to health and well-being in society. It looks at the impact on environmental factors such as poverty and weather and social factors like poor housing, social class and diet.
The socio-medical modal looks at the cause of illness and also tries to change the social or environmental factors to try and stop the illness from appearing again, Another strength of the socio-medical model is that it encourages people to live a healthier lifestyle
