Explanation and significance: Lady Macbeth is telling Macbeth how to act during the celebration. His face should be like a book – difficult to read what his intentions are. His thoughts should be hidden. This relates to theme of appearance vs. reality as Macbeth will present himself as a
devoted thane to Duncan, but in reality, he is planning to kill Duncan in order to take his position as king.
