Economic incentives is one of the top reason for persons to migrate to the United States of America, as they are able earn more money there than what they would earn in their native country. Mexico with 6,720,000in 2012 has the largest population of immigrants in the United States Table 3 (Baker and Rytina, 2013), this is because these persons wanted a better way of life for themselves and their families, therefore once an opportunity exist they gravitate to it. Many times young immigrants become victims of human trafficking without being knowledgeable of the circumstances
of the new job opportunities in which they venture into. Employers or the traffickers take advantage of these persons most of which are women offering them attractive job opportunities which may not be fulfilled or they are forced to engage in some form of illegal jobs. Persons that are usually at risk are those under 18 years old and between the ages of 18 and 24 years of age.
According to the U.S. immigration “Young people seeking better educational opportunities at the higher levels will often look towards other countries offering opportunities not available at home”. This is another factor which often finds these young people becoming illegal immigrants as they refuse to return home after they have achieved their educational goal. But remain in the United States and enter the labour force. This also leads to the young immigrant trying to get his or her family to join them in the country with the aim of getting better job opportunities and a better way of life.
