Part II
Write a 150- to 250-word response to each of the following questions:
• How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?
• What are the causes of discrimination?
• How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability) the same as discrimination faced by another? How are they different?
The United States of America is a very diverse nation that has been faced with discrimination, prejudice and stereotype for the longest time.
Discrimination is the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or for other arbitrary reasons. It is also the distinct mistreatment of people or groups because of race, color, religion, age, and sex and nation origin.
Prejudice the belief one has about a group of people in regards to their religion, ethnicity, race, gender, and if they are handicap. It is unfair when judgment is passed on anyone, whether it is negative or positive. Prejudice which is unfair treatment is also called discrimination and is illegal in the US. Prejudice can lead to job loss, litigation in regard to civil rights law, unfair business practice and societal isolation. Stereotype is the things we assume about people and groups based on what we have seen other members do. Sometimes the assumption that is made is incorrect. Stereotype is featured in the media daily; it is pointed towards different groups or people.
Discrimination, prejudice and stereotype does the same things but in different ways and different types of groups and people.
The cause of discrimination varies by race, religion, color, national origin, sex and disabilities. All employees are protected by Federal regulations. It does not matter how discrimination is presented it is grounds for legal actions. According to the Vaughn Law firm discrimination in the work place occurs in any form. These causes are based on the number of claims filed within the workplace. These are five cause hostile work environment, refusal to hire, and failure to provide accommodations for people with disabilities, pay inequity and refusal to promote.
Hostile work environment is if an employee is subjected to constant harassment, teasing, or other unwelcome activities based on factors such as race or religion, it may be considered discrimination.
Refusal to hire can be difficult to prove, this is when an employer refuses to hire an employee based on any prohibited factor is in violation of the law.
Failure to provide accommodations is a form of discrimination unique to disabled individuals, employers who refuse to reasonably accommodate a disabled employee or job applicant’s needs may be prosecuted for workplace discrimination.
Pay inequity is, employers are barred from paying employees differently for the same type of work based on any prohibited factors which could be based on age, race or nationality.
Refusal to promote is if an employee who would otherwise be given promotion is refused because of factors such as race or disability; they may be able to pursue legal action against the employer.
Discrimination can be faced by legal action if it is based on or happens within the workplace. As an individual you cannot lose confidence in what you believe in or was taught, because discrimination was created to make you feel less of yourself, loose self-esteem, motivation, peace of mind, etc. Confidence is the key to fight against insults, smirks and put downs. When confidence is put in place we can ignore what prejudice brings and has caused to every man, woman, child nations, color and religion.
Discrimination has taken us out of our element many times, but rising above and beyond it is standing up for ourselves and different groups to show then we are confident in us as people and individuals to fight it.

This creates diversity because some individuals consider other ethnic backgrounds to be inferior to themselves. Despite originating in early 1990, the term political correctness did not gain notable traction until more recent years. Today the term political correctness is aimlessly thrown about in the political arena from both sides of the aisle-but what does the term truly mean? Does it achieve its purpose? To fully understand the complexities surrounding this ideology, one must first examine the raw intention and foundation of the term. Political correctness is wildly accepted as the avoidance of expressions, actions, or microaggressions that can be perceived to offend, marginalize, or exclude specific groups of people who are inherently socially disadvantaged and/or discriminated against. However well intended the terms roots may be, political correctness in America has rose to a dangerously high level; the unwavering effort by the politically correct conscious to avoid offending any certain group or individual has lead to a highly sensitive, censored, and tip-toeing society.…
