What made Abby Johnson, director of Planned Parenthood
Amber is an 18 year old woman who has found she is feeling sick and unusual. She comes to find out that she is pregnant and consults her doctor. Being concerned of her student status and what her parents might think are her biggest fears. The fetus growing inside her is almost 11 weeks and has her own story from the inside. Mentioning all of the growth that has occurred and the development milestones she has reached, the fetus is concerned of her own well being. The doctor offers Amber the options of abortion and adoption, and then the heart beat will be heard. It is unclear what Amber’s choice is in the end.…
Anti-abortionists often refer to abortion as, ' the intentional killing of unborn babies', and see it as an evil deed, committed only by those who do not appreciate the value of human life. Although, it seems that, in many cases it is quite the opposite. In cases such as one night stands, rape or underage pregnancies, mothers often tend to choose abortion with the fear that they cannot give their child the life they deserve. These pregnancies are unwanted, accidental even. The mother does not plainly wish to kill her child for selfish reasons, but…
One must consider the decision young men and unwed mothers make to not immediately get married when an unexpected pregnancy arises. I think this is a responsible decision for many that may ultimately prevent an unstable,…
"When a bystander can see a fetus flinching at the moment of intentional killing, there is no to close to infanticide about it, it is infanticide."(Williams 2002). Abortion has been a controversial issue, ever since it was first legalized. This paper will explore the different viewpoints of abortion, how abortion is performed, what makes it wrong, and the options a woman has other than abortion.…
In the book "Abortion in Context: United States and Worldwide. (Issues in Brief)," author Cynthia Dailard identifies that throughout the world, women give similar reasons for having abortions, and that the common experiences they face deal with trying to adapt to changing social expectations. She says the circumstances range from being too young or too poor, being financially unstable, or being estranged from their sexual partner. She further states that two in ten pregnancies worldwide are resolved by abortions, accounting for more than half of all unintended pregnancies.…
Abortion is not a ‘women’s only’ issue. Beginning at conception, every pregnancy involves two or more bodies. Typically a man does not have a role in this process. Here we see three short stories that show the readers a range of abortion situations. “Hills Like White Elephants”, Ernest Hemingway shows the readers a woman struggle to make a decision wether she could keep this unborn child or keep her male dominated the relationship. “Good People”, David Foster Wallace is about two young Christian couple who are concerned with ensuring they are making the right decision between abortion and keeping the unborn child. “Black Man and White Woman in a Dark Green Rowboat”, Russell Banks is about a young white woman who decided to get an abortion…
Thoughts and feelings are often confused. When an unplanned pregnancy occurs, there are choices to parent the baby, make a plan for adoption or abortion. These options must be clearly thought of before a decision is made.…
- Personally I can share the view of the author in this essay: Teen pregnancy is in reality one of the most difficult experiences a teen girl might ever face when that can interrupt her education or other plans such as getting a better career or maintain fathers with them, but most of the time it doesn’t work and that’s when the situation gets worse. Children usually grow without a father figure when their parents have them at a very young age or sometimes they don’t even live with both parents because they can’t take care of them or support them economically. So when this children start to live without a parental guide , they grow adopting a bad behavior and getting the wrong advices from other bad people and turned into criminals , stealers, or other people of bad reputation because they live in a poor ambient without having a parent who can guide and help them to raise their levels of education.…
Both of these authors approach this subject from a very emotional point of view, as opposed to one based upon morality. In fact, these works provide no evidence of moral judgment, but are instead based upon the response of the soul to such important, life-altering decisions. The women in these stories simply regret their abortions, based not upon morality but upon the bond that a woman shares with her child, whether or not that child has been born or not. Interestingly, both authors choose to show the results of abortion, thereby sustaining a convincing argument against…
Pregnancy is a result of two individuals coming together by sexual intercourse and a life is created through that process. However, at times this situation can occur when a woman is least expecting it or does not want it to occur. In this situation discussed in our reading, this girl is placed in a predicament where the father could be three different people, two of which are people that she does not know, but she still wants an abortion regardless because the pregnancy is unintended. Three questions are posed regarding not only the mother but the child as well and whether it is justifiable to have an abortion.…
In America alone, an average of six million women gets pregnant each year. Out of these six million, forty-seven percent will end in abortion. The average cost for one abortion can range from $150-$4000. Because the cost is at such a high rate, women often look for alternative ways to get rid of the fetus. “Every year, many women, especially poor and minority women would die or suffer debilitating physical trauma, all in the name of enforced morality or religious dictates or lack of compassion, as it may be.” (Pajman) Often times these alternatives turn into sticky situations. For example, a teenager who is trying to abort without her parent’s knowledge might seek help from somebody in the streets rather than reaching out for help through a clinic because of fear. The outcome of an improper abortion can lead to health problems, damage to the uterus, or even fatal instances.…
Up to six million pregnancies occur every year. More than half of those pregnancies not planned. Of those women who have an unplanned pregnancy 50% were using a form of contraception when they conceived. About 74% of women surveyed who have had an abortion said that to have a baby at that time in their lives would dramatically change their live. Another 48% said they did not want to be a single mother, or there were problems in their relationships. Interfering with work was another 38% and the same percentage for education. 32% said they could not care for another child. A large 73% of women surveyed said they could not afford to have a baby (Stacey, 2010). A point of interest is a small 1% of women said the abortion was because of a forced sexual encounter (Westside Pregnancy Clinic, 2009). For whatever reason a woman chooses to have an abortion, women have her…
Weighing the consequences of abortion and analyzing whether it is acceptable is a right that some women have but most women abuse. Some young women that become pregnant in high school or college abort their babies because they want their freedom before they are tied down by children. Terminating the life of an unborn child is something that should be taken more seriously. Some women treat having a child as a task or burden; although caring for a child is not easy, the burden of taking the life of a baby is far more heart wrenching. Abortion is a life changing procedure that takes the life of an unwanted baby. From a statistical point of view, abortions caused by health problems, rape, and incest with involuntary pregnancy make up only 7 percent of all performed abortions. Social and personal problems are the remaining causes of women undergoing an abortion.…
What if you got pregnant with an unwanted baby? What would you do? Abort or give up for adoption? It’s up to you, just make the best choice. The are many stories about abortions but I chose this one. Very often babies are born alive during the abortion procedure, this had happened and the baby was transferred to Nurse Kathleen Malloy’s hospital to be given the medical care it needed. Nurse Kathleen Mallory said, “I worked the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift, and when we weren’t busy, I’d go out to help with the newborns. One night I saw a bassinet outside the nursery. There was a baby in this bassinet – a crying, perfectly formed baby – but there was a difference in this child. She had been scalded. She was the child of a saline abortion.…
There are lists of infamous myths surrounding the topic of abortion, claiming numerous health hazards, however it is crucial to recognize that it is merely a myth as there are health benefits to abortion and disadvantages of one’s well being after giving birth. With the option of having an abortion as a choice, it has been revealed that “Most (95%) women who had obtained the abortion felt it was the right decision, as did 89% of those who expressed regret” (UCSF). Women are able to feel a new sensation of comfort post-abortion, considering that it was most likely a result of an unintended pregnancy or other personal issues. This decreases the likelihood of women suffering from any mental health issues. Compared to the individuals who chose…
