Children are very important to the society since they will grow up to be good adults in the future. Education is one of the most necessary things that can make children to be quality adults. Someone may think that children should have freedom to think and learn whatever they want, so they let their children learn in the unstructured way. However, for kids, between 6 months to 4 year-old, structured education is better than unstructured education because children will be discipline adults, gain knowledge and experiences from school, and face the real world. Structured education trains children to be discipline adults. According to the article “Providing Structure in the Life of a Child” (Harper, 2012), Dr. Robert Shaw states that clear structure makes children stronger in physical or psychological behaviors. This structure should be given to children both at homes and schools by using 3 elements which are physical, order and human. Physical element will let children realize that homes are their places to live, and schools are their work places. In other words, children will know that different places have different purposes to stay. For example, they can do something at home, but they cannot do the same thing at school. Order element makes children can organize what they will do in their lives, and what they should do first or last. For instance, they should wash their hands before having dinner; they should brush their teeth, wear pajamas and pray before going to bed. Another order is they have to go to school on Monday to Friday. Parents should set schedule for them on weekend as well. For example, they can play what they like to play on Saturday, and go to church on Sunday. This element helps children so much to manage everything in their lives in the future. The last element is human element. Adults have to guide children what they should do as human being. They should see if their
