I am a dedicated individual seeking opportunities that will enrich my value of life. I am currently a freshman at the University of North Texas. Go Mean Green! I plan on majoring in Computer Science and after graduating getting a job at an international enterprise software consulting firm as a junior software consultant.

I am an extrovert and enjoy socializing and collaborating with others. In High School, I was Head Drum Major for my marching band. I was able to climb my way to the highest position on the leadership team because I was determined and extremely outgoing. Being drum major for both my junior and senior year made me a wonderful public speaker. Running and directing rehearsal in front of 350 of your peers will do that for you. This experience gave me the ability to understand what it means to collaborate with people, make efficient decisions, and function under high stress levels.

I went to St. Michael School from Kindergarten through Eighth grade, so when it came time to leave for high school, I was not excited for the change. St. Michael was especially small in regards to student population. We had just under three hundred students split between all nine grades. That left roughly twenty to thirty kids per class. I was extremely used too this small environment and not exactly looking forward to the terrors of high school towering over me nor the thought of being lost in the sea of students. Over the years I was extremely imbedded in my academics. I had straight A’s for my entire time at St. Michael. I received the academic achievement award at Eighth grade promotion for having the highest GPA in my class. Despite this, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to live up…

On the night I shared the news of my nomination as one of EIU’s 2016 Top Black Achievers with my family, my younger cousin, Diana, sent me a message saying, “Congratulations. I aspire to be as great as you. You literally inspire me to try hard to be successful.” To which I responded, “Aspire to be even better!” I was moved beyond expression. Diana’s words made me realize that by remaining steadfast in my quest for educational enrichment, I am also positively influencing young people who look like me and come from similar socioeconomic backgrounds. My quest for education is sending the message that not only can they reach the doors of higher education, but they can work even harder and accomplish so much more. Coming from a social climate that either indirectly or…

I am a born leader and I would love to be able to bring my passion for leading and hard-work to Indiana University. Over the years I have moved a lot and been to four different schools throughout middle school and high school. At first it was a struggle to keep my grades up while trying to make friends and play sports, but I have since found that the key is all things in moderation. I play tennis and am a cheerleader for my high school and plan on continuing these sports while at IU. I love the spirit that revolves around the school sports and other events at Indiana University. I would be very involved with keeping the Indiana Hoosier traditions alive. I also plan to be involved with the Greek life at Indiana University. If I am given the opportunity to attend Indiana University, I would want to study business.…

I admit, I’ve always been a bit of an introvert. In high school, if there was an opportunity to lead, I hurried in the opposite direction. I avoided circumstances where I might fail or face discomfiture, and I particularly shunned events where I would have to interact with people I had never met before. Therefore, if you were to tell me back then that I would describe myself as ambitious, intellectually curious, and socially responsible, I would look at you dumbfounded. However, since leaving high school, certain experiences have led me to transform from a follower to a leader.…

I was recently honored by Kiwanis as being in the academic varsity in my class, having one of the ten best cumulative gpa’s in the school. I have balanced many extracurriculars while maintaining a weighted gpa of 4.6 and an unweighted gpa of 3.99. I have received an academic letter and been on the honor roll for all four years of high school, and earned the Academic Boosters award in social studies. Furthermore, I have received a number of scholarships in recognition of my efforts both from the community and from Universities. My academic achievement stems from a lifelong love of education that I have drawn upon countless times for strength and inspiration, especially during some of my more difficult classes such as AP Chemistry and IB Physics. My parents and teachers have always been so supportive of me, and my eagerness to learn paired with a phenomenal support system have allowed me to achieve all that I have thus…
