User Interface Case Study
2.4. User Interfaces and Usability
The Usability of the User Interface is the ease of which the interface can be learned and used. A study of the usability would normally be conducted as a primary job function of the designers and the technical writers.

Usability is the ease of which the interface can be learned and used.

This will include the methods of measuring the usability like conducting a need analysis and then study the principles behind the perceived efficiency. In the Human-Computer Interaction and computer science environment, the usability study would include the elegance and clarity with which the interaction with a computer program is designed. Usability would be different from user satisfaction and user experience because

The User-Centred Design can be characterised as a multi-stage problem solving process that does not require the designers to analyse and foresee how these users would be likely to interact with the system. This would allow the designers to test the validity of their assumptions with regards to the behaviour of the users in real world situations at each stage of the process.
The User-Centred Design process will be able to help the developers to fulfil the goals of the engineering. This process would consider the user requirements right from the beginning. This will then be included into the whole product cycle. These requirements would be noted and refined through investigative methods.
The Task-Oriented Design is a framework of processes that could be used to design a user interface with a high degree of usability. This approach would follow the natural and intuitive workflow, rhythm and expectation. The user interfaces would be organised around what the users need and want to do. The end result of this approach is that the confusion would be minimised and errors prevented. All of this would allow the user to feel more in control of their own

If UCD is the method that guides an effective development process, usability may be perceived as the end result. Usability was once known simply as "user-friendliness" (Norman & Draper, 1986), nowadays usability has become the quality software measurement for interactive software. The usability testing perhaps is one of the most valuable tools for designers. This method allows the designers to observe the actions of the target user population first-hand. Usability testing allows designers to observe genuine users performing real tasks and situation.…
