This seemed unreal when I first heard it, and disgusting due to the fact that everyone was watching a human being tortured to their death. The part of the event when the young adults spoke in a discussion format about their experiences as a black individual, and their response to the noose incident at CSU was extremely impactful for me. As a white individual, I wasn’t aware of many of the struggles that these young adults experience in their day to day lives; such as not being sat next to in classes or struggling to voice their thoughts in group projects. The noose incident that occurred on campus is terrible, and, as many students stated, it wasn’t dealt with in the best way possible. Many black students were scared and didn’t get the support they needed from staff or other students to get through the matter. I feel that there should have been more of a message sent to other students to keep them aware of the matter, and provide a university wide awareness for the incident to ensure that these students feel safer on a campus that they call home. This incident, and event, played a key role in showing popular culture in our society.
