The United States has been known world wide as the land of the free, the land of opportunity, and one the wealthiest countries in the world. The United States have what many call “the greatest form of government known to this world”: democracy. What is democracy? It is defined as “a system of rule that permits citizens to play a significant part in the governmental process”. It implies that the whole body of citizens limits the power of the government. Americans make America but what make Americans? Being the most diverse place in the world, people living in America no matter your race, gender, ethnicities, sexual preferences, and religion, are Americans. Therefore, everyone without exceptions should benefit the same privileges. The three (3) core values of the American Political System offer: Liberty, Democracy, and Equality of opportunity/of result. The American government also offers civil liberties to all citizens. Although civil liberties are not guarantees, they are promises that the government makes to us. In the two articles chosen in the New York Times, Democrats Scrambling to Expand Eavesdropping and Critics Cost Muslim Educator Her Dream School, one of the core values offered had been violated also the civil liberties of citizens. Things are now different than they used to be in the United States. Some of these changes occurred after the 9/11 tragedy. However, why should people keep on paying for this tragic accident?
