3. This issue affects our government at the local, state, and national levels because it will show a lowering of crime rates and with that it will be an example to the rest of the state and nation.…
Graffiti is very prevalent in low-income urban neighborhoods. When graffiti is not removed, more people will take the opportunity to graffiti, litter will accumulate, people will loiter and larger, more serious crimes such as mugging and shooting will take place (Arrington, 67-69). This disorder causes people who have the ability to leave the neighborhood to leave, those who cannot leave stay indoors, property values decrease and new businesses are discouraged from investing…
The peak age for offending is between 15 and 18, with young males much more likely to offend than females. Young people have always been over-represented in the crime statistics, and in deviant activity in general. Official statistics show that roughly half of all those convicted are aged 21 or under, and a 2002 self-report survey found that almost half of Britain’s secondary school students admitted to having broken the law.…
Juveniles commit a lot of crimes and much of it is because of influences and or surrounded lifestyles. Majority of the crimes committed by juveniles are violent crimes but the main ones involve drug abuse and simple assault. Juveniles account for 17 percent of all arrest according to the FBI and 15 percent of those arrest were due to violent crimes. ( Juvenile Crime, 2001 2003)…
187). Any violence in the school is not usually serious and the data provided in most articles is insufficient to qualify the belief of rising brutality. In other words, there is no indication if the violence was truly serious or if the incident involved a minor scrap. Another reality is that the majority of crimes in the schools are not of a violent nature at all, but are minor theft (Kappeler et al., 2000, p. 187). This parallels most statistics that property crimes are more prevalent than violent crimes in society as a whole (Kappeler et al., 2000, p.…
Vandalism: Ensure children’s safety, inform the head teacher. Assess the risk, take photographs. Organise to clean up the mess.…
In the wake of the Columbine shooting, and the shooting at Virginia Tech laws are being passed to make sure schools are safe for students to attend, and communities are safe for people to live in. To ensure communities and schools are safe, communities have to be a part of the process. This may include groups such as neighborhood watch, to report any illegal activity observed in the community or around schools especially where children frequent. Illegal activity such as drug dealing poses a high risk to children. This can attest the gun being involved which are used to protect drug dealers and their turf, which is ultimately the community the children play in. There are also gangs that factor into illegal activities. These gangs also protect the neighborhoods or turfs with guns. The dangers involved result in drive by shootings, which can injury or kill innocent individuals. They also recruit young children to participate in these gangs. This also exposes children to illegal activities, which include giving young adolescents firearms to protect themselves from rival gang members and to protect their turf. These high crime areas continue to involve individuals who obtain firearms illegally. Some poverty stricken neighborhoods see an increase in firearm violence, due to the environmental surroundings. This would include public housing projects, and other low income housing areas surrounded by drugs,…
On one hand, an advantage of this theory is that the solution is not that difficult, knowing that if a community shows signs of deterioration and we do nothing to fix it there will be crime in it; we have to work hard to protect, care and repair the community so vandalism and anti-social behavior won’t spread.…
Even though some people think this problem can easily be solved. It's a terrible thing our country faces each year. Because Peer pressure is a problem many young kids face. The impact of drugs in the communities and poverty and how it changes lives. There are numerous elements that play a hand in the increased number of violent acts. I had to say poverty is the worst of them all.…
When you look violence, it is everywhere in our community today. It is affecting our communities very negatively, and because of this our communities are victims of violence. It is truly believed that the community is one of the most influential parts of people life that cause violence. If you think about what was written about in the other parts of the paper, it basically speaks about the victims but there has to be someone and a reason all these crimes are. Especially when you look at a juvenile which is the leading age range in homicide, most of the homicides are being committed by other juveniles. This is why as our youth falls victim to the negativity, and violence in our community it is causes a vicious cycle. Your angry violent children that grow up and have children that live in the same communities that they grew up, and they create more angry…
There is no one reason for violent crime. According to Elliot Currie, author of Roots of Danger: Violent Crime in Global Perspective, it is an interaction of inequality, marginal work, weak social constructs, strained families, harsh and ineffective criminal justice system, and easy access to firearms. These issues lead to violence, which “contributes to a vicious downward spiral in which poor social conditions create high levels of violence, which in turn exacerbate those adverse social conditions and make it harder to overcome them,” (Currie 5). Exploring these reasons for violent crime helps one analyze certain factors that lead to violence in the community and then create solutions.…
Dauvergne shows in this graph the statistics from Stevenson et al. in 1998 to the statistics in 2007. It shows that over the past 20 years, the total of both youth crime rate and property crime has decreased, but violent crime has increased. The reasoning for the decrease over these years is because there were approximately 135,500 less non-violent offences.…
Based on the fact that every night we sit and watch the evening news they are reporting on at least two violent crimes. One of those violent crimes is always committed against someone who wasn’t bothering anyone. The second of the two violent crimes are committed against the elderly or children. With these types of violent crimes going on in neighborhoods and cities across America more and more people are feeling unsafe. To add to that unsafe feeling we all…

Crimes including burglaries, robberies, mugging, and car theft can disrupt and destroy communities. Such crimes can be prevented by effectively by recruiting more police officers to patrol streets, improving security with CCTV and locks within buildings, and increasing the citizens' awareness on how to protect themselves. Advertisements and lectures by the police or local community centers may help to raise awareness so that the local residents would know how to prevent thefts. Since there is a possibility that thefts may often be carried out by teenagers who have nothing to do during the day, youth centers may be set up by the local community using donations so that teenagers may have free recreational activities to keep them occupied.…
