VARK: Learning Style Analysis
A learning style is your preferred way of learning so many ways of learning and what about teaching? VARK identifies four learning styles, V-visual, A-aural/auditory, R-read/write, and K-kinesthetic this analysis was created by Neil Fleming and is a set of 16 questions answers are used to create a profile of each participants learning style. Each individual has different learning preferences, ways of expressing what they have learned, and ways of teaching others what they have learned. Who would have thought there were different ways of learning?
Kinesthetic learners need all senses to be involved, taste, smell, touch, sight and hearing have to utilized in the learning experience (http://www.varklearn.com/english/page.asp?p=kinestheticprint). Kinesthetic learners commonly known as “do-ers” need to carry out an activity, and do not learn by watching others do, or listening to others speak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinesthetic_learning). Learners of this type may struggle to learn by reading or listening (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinesthetic_learning), learners of this type need to use real life examples and plenty of them in their notes and summaries to have something to equate the topic to, recall the experiences that they have had, place pictures in their notes, practice exam questions and answers, talk with another who learns the same way, and role play if possible (http://www.vark-learn.com/english/page.asp?p=kinestheticprint).
Learning strategies used thus far are reading the information several times, highlighting areas that are thought to be important, hand written notes, and reading notes out loud. Learning how to equate what is being learned to life experiences whether in personal or professional life to retain the information. Notes that are taken are looked over
