Most private employers do not give the day off for Veteran’s Day. Just because the government recognizes a legal holiday does not mean that private-sector employers have to follow it. Federal holidays merely dictate what the government is going to do; how the rest of the country chooses to observe the holiday is up to them. Aside from the legal aspect, SHOULD employers be closing as a sign of respect to our military and the sacrifices being made overseas? Of course, the answer to this question depends on your perspective and business. Furthermore there does not seem to be a logical rationale as to why employers often give time off for Memorial Day, but not for Veteran’s Day, it certainly seems to send the message that unless you died in
