Under direct supervision of a certified veterinarian a veterinary technician can administer drugs leading to euthanasia of an animal. They may also put splints and slings on and bandage wounds. Veterinary technicians can do dental procedures such as cleaning by the removal of plaque and stains. Filing and polishing teeth as well as other routine procedures. These professionals may also give anesthesia and preform intubations that are not emergencies. Veterinary technicians may deal with blood components of patients and the giving of blood. They are allowed to measure mediation but not dispense it. An experienced technician can put in a central line and perform arterial collection and catherization. These duties are by no means the only jobs of a veterinary technician but, the pure number of these tasks shows the importance of a veterinary technician’s job. Education is important for a veterinary technician because giving medical care is not as simple as it looks. As with medically treating people there is an overabundance of information too know when medically treating animals. Basically the life of the patient is in the veterinary technicians hands and it is important that those hands are skilled.
