There is no denial that Video Games play a big role in modern society. It is a fun and enjoyable activities which millions of people practice every day. The gaming industry is one of the fastest industry in the last decade and the attraction of video games toward the public is growing more and more powerful. According to Gartner, an economic research term, global video game sales reached $111.1 billion in 2015. In 2013, computer and video game companies posted strong overall sales in the United States, with revenues exceeding $21 billion as entertainment software companies delivered well-paying jobs and revenue to state and local economies across the nation. Some would argue that video gaming is some type of “pathological gambling” as it bring multiple negative effect on the socio-economical and educational life of the game. All of these arguments are well known by the majority, this make people wonder even more, if the gamers know the risks of video gaming? Robin Ammon, professor of kinesiology and sport science at the University of South Dakota, when asked about his point of view on extreme sport, an activity with great risks, some would say greater risks than video gaming, replied that people should be responsible for their own actions. “There are inherent risks to any kind of activity that you’re involved in,” he says. “Individuals that are going through these need to be well aware of what they are.
