Vietnam-our country was known is a beautiful country, gentle and friendly people, a country with many special,abundant and colorful culture.Referring to Vietnam’s culture, we can’t not mention Vietnam costumé. In each period, Vietnam costumes has one own definition.
In the past, when people began to appear, our ancestors have known for bark, leaves wrapped around the body to keep the body warm and protected. That is the origin of the costume. In the feudal time, people had very strict rules about how to dress. The normally people were not allowed to wear any dyed colour except black, brown and white. Their clothes were trivial and simple to suit their roles in society (except the important festivals or ritual ceremonies, weddings..). One of the most ancient dress was wearing by women until the early twentieth century is " Ao tu than".(show pic). When the women wore “ao tu than”, they often took a Flat “non quai thao”, to suntan or as jewelry. In the 18th century, the man in all 3 regions of Vietnam started wearing simple-pyjama ( originated come from the South culture), known as the “ Áo cánh” in the north and “Áo bà ba” in the south . Their headgear is simply a piece of cloth ( some other time is silk ) wrapped around the head and the footwear is a pair of wood-clogs.. Royal costumes were different from a simple outfit of farmers, quite complex, there are three dozen different types of clothes to suit difference occasion. Only the king wore yellow colour,red or purple clothes. Therefore, royal dresses were much different with each dynasty.
