Vision Essay

Together as One I am the kind of person who enjoys working with others. No matter what the task, difficult or easy, when working collaboratively I gain more knowledge and understanding from my peers. Unfortunately, at my high school I was not able to work with other classmates as much as I would’ve liked due to the routine of my classes. According to CSUMB’s philosophy on this particular topic, however, I will be working with fellow class mates collaboratively and intellectually. I can’t wait to begin my journey into the “unknown” of education and all the obstacles that come with it. The standards and vision for this university are appealing to me and I know for fact I will get the best possible education in my years here. On a personal level, I have experienced something recently that has opened my eyes to the idea of working together and how beautiful human interaction truly is. During this last 4th of July, I attended a public fireworks show in my small hometown of Simi Valley. The whole day went great, hanging out with friends, playing games, simply did the normal day to day stuff. Nowhere in the back of my mind was I thinking anything would go wrong. However, I was mistaken. The “professional” fireworks show which never failed in the past misfired; shooting shrapnel and debris out at the crowd. Luckily, no one in my group was hit but I immediately went to help others that were not so fortunate. Not only did I run in the direction of the incident; but in addition others sprang up to help. It was an incredible sight to see everyone trying to do what they could to help the injured. There were little kids with burns in their legs, people bleeding and crying wondering what went wrong. I grabbed ice out of random ice chests to apply to different peoples wounds. It was the most terrible thing I’ve experienced in my life. However, it was also a collaborative experience I will never forget.
