I set up an appointment with the Kids Club daycare at 9:45 am on November 4th to observe for an hour of toddler classroom who were between three and four years old. The principle gave me a warm greeting and took me to the class and introduced me to the teachers and the children. Everyone there made me feel welcomed. I chose a place where I can sit, observe and write my note as well as to be away from children's sight. In the classroom there were five boys, two girls, and two teachers Ms. Nadia and Ms. Emma. The classroom itself was large and spacious. The classroom is very appropriate for children this age and it has many interesting areas such as a blocks and art area, and children taped some of their previous work in the art area. The color of the class is bright and has interesting posters like calendars with the name of children’s birthdays. Also. On November 6th, I observed a four year-old boy at the UCI Early Childhood Education Center. My observation starts at 4:10pm, and it lasts for thirty minutes. At the time I did the observation, all of the children woke up from the nap time and started to play outside of the classroom. The playground is at least seventy-five square feet, and it has many play stations for children. Three classrooms share the same outside playground, and the age groups of those children are from three years old to five years old. All of the children could access to the outside playground through the back door in their classrooms. From the left side of the playground, there is a basketball stand next to the tree, then moving toward to the right, there is a lawn in the central of the playground. On the grass, there is a big…

For my fourth observation of Jaelee, I was looking to see if she can follow through with one clear, simple direction. When I went to her class, she was outside playing. She played out in the playground for a while and then Ms. Reta asked the children to line up to go back inside. Ms. Reta had to ask Jaelee once and she got in line; she followed directions so well that Ms. Reta had her get a toy drum and had her hit the drum while screaming line up to the other children. Jaelee really enjoyed helping her teacher in getting the children lined up.…

On September 29, I observed a kindergarten class at Genoa Elementary school. I had watched multiple children around the room, mainly while they were doing activities at stations. Most kids were friendly with each other and followed directions. The teacher was interactive with the students to get them more engaged and also made sure every student got a turn by the end of the activity. The students were very outgoing and loud, as children should be. The children even interacted with us as we walked around the room to observe them. They were inviting and friendly. Every student seemed to know what was going on, even though it was their first time doing the stations which proves that they’re quick to adapt and also quick learners.…

Early childhood education is not a new concept. It has been in existence since ancient Greek and Roman times and many of our own methods come from those foundations (Gordon & Brown. 4-5). Throughout the course of history, philosophers, researchers, and theorists have spent many years researching, observing, and teaching young children. They have passed down to us many of the practices and theories that are being used even today in many early childhood classrooms and daycare centers. In the late 1800’s there arose a theorist by the name of Maria Montessori whose play learning theories and methods are still being used today in early childhood classrooms in many countries around the world.…
