Rationale
We have developed a unit of work for the Health and Physical Education (HPE) domain for students at a level 9 stage of learning according to AUSVELS. This unit of work is comprised of a series of 6 PE lessons which focused on building and developing competence in skills required for Volleyball. This unit is related to the movement and physical activity dimension that focuses on the influences that sport and recreation has in everyday live. The unit is broken down into progressions of skills required in the game of volleyball. They start by learning basic rules of the game and the fundamental skills such setting, digging, and serving. When the students develop these skills we move onto more complex movement and skill such as special awareness, tactical components and spiking.
The lesson plan is designed to that students achieve the following AUSVELS standards.
Discipline-based Learning
Increasing strength develop and greater control and skill – correcting executing a dig, set, serve & spike according to the assessment criteria outlined in the appendices.
Develop proficiency in a range of high level movement and manipulate skills – in relation to the movement of the individual’s skill execution in a game situation.
Physical, Personal and Social Learning
Increasing skills in planning, observation and analysis allow them to develop and evaluate ways of refining technique and enhancing their own and others – assessment AS learning the skills,
