Volunteering Personal Statement

Ever since my childhood, I have exhibited an innate desire to help others. I was the type of kid who loved to help and give to others. I would help anybody who asked for it. Whenever we had food drives at school I was eager to participate, and help feed the homeless. I found that helping others is very rewarding experience. Even though I grew up in an impoverished neighborhood, I realized there were people who were less fortunate than I was. Consequently, I often thought about different ways I could help homeless people. As I grew older, my desire to help people never diminished, it only grew stronger. This intrinsic will to aid others, cultivated my character, and empowered me to define purpose in my life.
During my two years at Richard Daley College, I have continually found ways to be proactive in helping my community and school. Therefore, I decided to join the non-profit organization One Million Degrees, which provides educational resources, career development, and volunteering opportunities. I am a second year scholar and dedicated to volunteering my services even after graduation. One Million Degrees has been instrumental in helping me gain leadership experience through volunteering. For instance, I volunteered for “Comcast Cares Day” where I helped paint and clean classrooms at an elementary school located in my community. This was just
