In my community, I mainly volunteer at “I am my Brother’s Keeper” (IAMBK) and Southern Christian Leadership Foundation” on a daily basis. IAMBK is an after-school program targeted to low-income and single parent’s families in Tuskegee, Alabama. The organization’s goal is to help develop student’s character, while increasing their educational level. I personally assist the manager with daily tasks and tutor kids from sight words, SAT Prep, to multiplication problems. This has had an impact on me because I see them maturing …show more content…
I chose Tuskegee because for starters, my father graduated from there, and I personally saw the positive effects it had. I did not let the fact that I was the only person from my county to go to Tuskegee to steer me away, because I knew I wanted to be different and prove that there are successful people that go to HBCUs. Tuskegee’s homecoming has always been an eye-opening experience for me because I can see so many successful professions from CFOs to Five Star Generals.
