Mr. Chairman, Panel of judges, Fellow speakers, Ladies and Gentlemen. This is group nine and we are talking against the motion, bribery and corruption. There is a rising worldwide alarm over corruption at the contemporary time and numerous issues are liable for this. Corruption is now universal, is everywhere you go. Corruption happens in educational sectors, schools in particular, hospitals, banks and even in churches. Also, claims and charges of corruption now play a major role in politics. Bribery and Corruption is an immoral act, the holy bible talks about it.
Mr. Chairman, bribery means the process or practice of giving money, services or other things to procure illegal or dishonest action or decision in favor of the giver whiles corruption is the use of public office for private gain, or in other words, use of official position, rank or status by an office bearer for his own personal benefit . Facilitation payments, where a bribe is paid to receive preferential treatment for something that the receiver is required to do by law (e.g. an official processing a license application), Mr. Chairman, one may ask what are the causes of bribery and corruption? Some among the numerous causes are as follows: from economic view point corruption occurs because individuals get an immediate benefit, from political view point
Mr. Chairman, my opponent may say in Proverbs 17:8, “A bribe works miracles like a magic charm that brings good luck.” But I say bribery and corruption is worse than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual; the former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country. Proverbs 18:16, “A bribe will get you into seeing anyone’’.
