What are the top ten American values as found in the text?
1. Individualism
2. Achievements and success
3. Activity and work
4. Science and technology
5. Progress and material comfort
6. Efficiency and practicality
7. Equality
8. Morality and humanitarian
9. Freedom and Liberty
10. Ethnocentrism and group superiority
(Kendall, 2014 pg. 74-75)
Which ones do you embrace and why?
The ones that I embrace are individualism because what you put into life will make you better than what you are. If you push yourself to do better in life then the overall outcome is huge. Along with this is achievement and success. If you push yourself (individual) then you will have success in life as well. Another one that I embrace is freedom and liberty because without these then you are not restricted to do what you want. If there was not freedom then we would be told what, when and how to do things in life.
Are there any you reject, and if so, why?
I do not reject any of these values because they are all something that anyone can rely on or strive for.
What three values would you add to the list if you could?
I would add loyalty and respect, selfless service, and honor to your country
Why are the values you would add not already in the top ten?
My values are different than others values, I could explain my reasons however it has to be agreed by all people in the United States.
What are five symbols that represent America?
The five symbols that I would say are The American Flag, The Liberty Bell, The Statue of Liberty, The Seal of the United States, and the Bald Eagle.
Do they also represent other components of culture, such as material objects or values?
The American flag and The Liberty Bell would represent Freedom and Liberty
The Statue of Liberty represents achievements and success. This is also a non-material culture.
The bald eagle would represent non-material culture as well.

The values that I hold most deeply are friendships, family, and happiness. Values are things that are important in the way I live and work and I believe all of these things play a major role in my life. Since I was a little kid, my values have changed tremendously. Back then, my values would've been playtime, mac & cheese, and chicken nuggets. I believe values mature as you grow and mine definatly did. For example, when I was younger I remember being friends with everyone, but now I only have a select number of friends. This represents values to me. My values inform my actions by them always being my first thought while making a decision. They always play a role in my…

These are just a few of the values people understand from a “religious” view. Freedom shows that our country is by itself and not under rule by anybody else, it also shows that citizens of the nation aren't manipulated by anyone, which allows people to have their own belief systems. The democracy that was given to us by our founding fathers give the power to the people, who then promote people to represent parts of the nation for a say in certain ideas for the nation. Honesty is a value that not many people could say that they have. It provides a basis for people to have integrity to our social system that people often believe is fake and everyone is crooked.…
