Walk Two Moons Analysis

Why do people spend time worrying about things in the past, when they have so much future ahead of them? In the award winning novel, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, a mysterious note is dropped off on the Winterbottom’s front porch: “In the course of a lifetime, what does is matter?” Through this metaphor, this message is trying to reveal to people that they should not fret the things in life that won’t matter in a few days, months, or the course of a lifetime. Even thinking about events that occurred in the past, waste time in the present and future. One might think that this has left him a bit more mature than others, for he knows what can happen to people, and how to deal with it. Another character that has had to deal with a life-changing situation is Mrs. Cadaver, also referred to as Margaret. Margaret has dealt with not one, but three events that will majorly alter her life, and matter more than anything in the course of a lifetime. One night when her mother and husband were driving their car, they were hit by a drunk driver. They were immediately rushed to the hospital, where Mrs. Cadaver was the nurse on shift. Blood and chaos was all over the streets as people flocked to get out of the bombing territory. Videos and documentaries tell how strangers put everything aside (including their life), to help other strangers in the time of grief. In the course of a lifetime, this incident will definitely matter. People are still suffering from all of the inhaled smoke and severe injuries. Several people lost their limbs, and a few lost their lives. However, this will not only affect the people who were wounded during the bombs, it affects everybody. It has now become more frightening to attend public gatherings, festivals, or marathons knowing someone’s life could be on the line.
