Walt Kowalski is my favorite character. Walt is initially portrayed as a narrow-minded, racist, and hateful towards the Hmong people living in his neighborhood. He does not want to associate with the Hmong people. Later, in the movie he starts to change his mind about the Hmong people. I like Walt because he will state the truth straight to your face. He is not afraid to say anything that might hurt someone’s feelings and I admire that.
Walt is brutally honest when it comes to scenarios. He has a different sense of humor compared to others. Walt starts to be a positive role model towards Thao. He showed Thao how to act like a man. He gets him to work across the street and fix up the house for a week. Walt gets Thao a construction job and teaches him how to speak to others. He told him not to be afraid to speak up for himself. Walt’s death symbolized change for Thao and Sue. I liked the ending because it showed that Walt cared about the Hmong people after all. The Hmong gang came and attacked Thao and Sue. Walt felt the need to step in and take a stand. He carefully thought of a plan in action. He knew the gang would go to jail for shooting at him. He died to protect Sue and
