it. America is one of the country consist a lots of different ethnicities like African American, Asian, Hispanic etc. The quote of Whitman “This is the meal
equally set this the meat for natural hunger, It is for the wicked just the same as the righteous, I make appointments with all” (The Norton Anthology of
American Literature, 1342). This meant for someone like Mr. Whitman he believes that everyone must be free and equal. Whitman is a strong independent

poems it also
reflects on some of the methods and behaviors of things that are going on America untill now. “Song of Myself” is one of the most famous work that Whitman
has done.
Whitman describes a child coming to him and asking him what is the grass. He has no real answer and meaning that he cannot fully answer.“A child
said what is the grass? fetching it to me with full hands; How could I answer the child? I do not know what it is any more than he”( TNAOL, 1333). This meant
Whitman can only tell the child that he sees the free and equal participation in young men and old women. Whitman is telling the child that even the grass that
has died and has gone back to the earth is a part of the unit.
Emily dickinson is also an example of American Identity because she is recognized as one of the greatest American poets. She is a poet who continues
to exert an enormous influence on the way that writers think about the possibilities of poetic craft and vocation. She had to struggle with the faith and her
society’s perceptions of god, nature and humankind. Dickinson uses poetry for the expression of her pains and sufferings which are full of poetic potential. Her
quote “After great pain, a formal feeling comes. The Nerves sit ceremonious, like Tombs. The sniff heart question was it he, that bore and yesterday, or
centuries before?”(TNAOAL, 1677). For me, this quote meant that she was so much deeply hurt because she is been through a great pain and also she
is
discussing about her emotional pain. In her work she also talks about dying and death. Her quote “I felt like funeral, in my Brain, and mourners to and fro kept
treading-”(TNAOL, 1673). This meant that I think she started to accept death as a part of her life.
In the conclusion, Dickinson and Walt Whitman are two poets that helped shape the way we think about poetry. Both poets talk
about their different views of emotions. While their backgrounds and writing styles were quite different, both Dickinson and Whitman challenged the accepted f
forms of writing and are regarded today as important poets
