1. Refer to the scene where Mouna spoke with the immigration attorney and asked for his help in freeing Tarek from the detention center. Explain whether you saw feminine or masculine communication styles exhibited there. Be specific about the content of the conversation. (3 points)
I saw feminine communication style, because the communication was full of sensitivity and emotional expressiveness. Mouna was looking at him very emotionally. Moreover, when she asked him if he had any children, she was trying to emotionally get sympathy and connection. When he answered that his uncle was also deported after raising his kids in the USA for years, we can say that she was …show more content…
Identify one power resource Tarek used with Walter when he was teaching him to play the drums. Explain why you chose that specific power resource. (3 points)
Expertise: Tarek has a right to direct Walter because he was more experienced and knowledgeable about the drum than Walter. Tarek had more information about the drum than Walter. Since Tarek was more knowledgeable and experienced, he had more power than Walter. Walter obeyed Tarek’s instructions because Tarek has the ability to teach Walter how to play the drum.

The film audience knew that the relational dialectical tension was between Zainab and Tarek because the conflict was between the couple not between the couple and the outside (Walter). Walter was not aware that there was a problem.
6. Identify a scene in the film in which either Nonverbal or Verbal indicators of power was clearly demonstrated. Explain. (3 points)
Verbal indicators of power: Walter used powerless language to ask Mouna to go out and eat dinner with him. He asked her if she had any plan on Thursday night, and she replied no, to which he then replied, “ I was thinking maybe we might do something that night.” The way Walter asked her or his powerless speech make it seem as if he lack confidence in asking her to go out to dinner with him, and he seems uncertain if Mouna was going to say yes to him or not.
7. Identify a scene in the film in which ONE of the following General Indicators of power was clearly demonstrated. Explain. (3 points)
The scene where the police officer told Walter that Tarek had been deported. The police officer told Walter that Tarek had been deported, and while Walter was having a break down moment, the police officer was
