War In The Trenches
Written by Simon Adams, was published by Franklin Watts in 2004
Reflection: This book talk about what soldiers did in the World War One. They work in a trench which was under cover by darkness; the enemy could not see what was going on. That was the time to bring supplies forwards, send out patrols to reconnoiter enemy lines and undertake running repairs to the trenches, frontline parapets and the barbed-wire defensive fences. Also, stretcher parties went into no-man’s-land to rescue the injured and recover the dead. Dawn and dusk were the most likely times of day when the enemy might
attack, but they should ready for open fire in every time. At last, many soldiers were died or injured in this war. I think that declare a war to others is a stupid and time-consuming thing. A simple war could become a world war and all of the participant in this war may have huge influence.
Comments: After reading this book, I think that wars are very bad that it will hurt many people because many people will die in the war. I notice that soldiers’ lives are very tough and very hard. It is because they needed to live in the deep trenches and there were infested with rats as large as cats and germs. Also, I think that wars are disadvantageous to both sides. If one side lost, they need to give a lot of money to the victor. To the victor, although they win the war but there will also have many people die. Therefore, I think that peaceful is the best. If they have some quarrel, the best way is negotiate but not fighting. Besides, the cost after a war is very harsh. Including the economic and humanity cost, the country could be very poor.
