The Greek scholar Plato spoke about a place In the Mediterranean Sea that housed a spectacular city built on a luxurious Island; this is the city of Atlantis. In the beginning, The Gods of Olympia divided the world up among themselves. Poseidon, God of the seas received Atlantis. Poseidon chose a mortal wife and had ten sons. Poseidon giving the eldest Atlas kingship and the others to become princes and to rule over separate parts of the island. The Atlanteans had extreme wealth, riches and god like characteristics that the God Poseidon had granted them with. Everything that they needed was on the island. They lived in peace and prosperity for many generations.
Though soon over time they lost their god like abilities and became greedy, like humans. They flaunted their wealth and venerate it at the expense of the Gods. Zeus saw what was happening and assembled the gods. The gods were angered and planned a set of cataclysmic events to destroy the city.
The Atlanteans had remarkable militaries (even had war elephants) and were sent away to raid the shores of the mainland. They sent troops all over Europe and Asia. Athens assembled many Greek armies to cease the war. Athens allies abandoned them and they set on facing the Atlantean forces on their own. Atlantis defeated Athens as well as defending their own city and freeing Egypt. Shortly after the army set sail back to Atlantis, violent earthquakes and floods that had swept over the city and destroyed it. The city sank into the depth of the ocean within
