Poseidon Research Paper

Poseidon is one of the three major gods and also was one of the most worshipped/respected gods of Olympus. He is widely know as the Greek god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses. Poseidon was the son of Kronos and Rhea (Kuiper 1). He had five siblings, two brothers and three sisters (Sellers 1). Poseidon had played a major part in the war against the titans to gain freedom. Once Poseidon helped defeat his father, Kronos, and the other evil creatures of the world, he obtained the control over the sea from Zeus (Cartwright 1). Poseidon is the son of Kronos and Rhea. His siblings were named Zeus, Hades, Hera, Hestia, and Demeter (Sellers). In most of the ancient myths, Poseidon and his siblings were believed to have been eaten by their father, Kronos. While Zeus was in his father’s stomach, he came up with a plan for Kronos to drink a potion, which would cause him to vomit out his children. Eventually Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon had gathered enough strength to fight and bring down their father (Josh 1). Once Kronos had been defeated, Zeus split up the leadership of the world. In the ancient times, many greeks would sacrifice bulls to honor Poseidon and other miscellaneous gods. The fish represents Poseidon because he was acquainted with several undersea creatures. The horse represents Poseidon because he was also known as the god of horses. In certain stories, Poseidon would appear as the figure of a horse (Erin 1). Poseidon’s main symbol is the trident.
