I believe that it wasn’t a mistake to release Megan from Waxter because she was feeling like she was losing her mind being locked up. Megan states, “I can’t take it no more, I going to lose my god forsaken mind,” meaning she is starting to lose herself that’s why she tried to go AWOL (escape) because she feels like an animal being in a cage. Also, the people from the facility are testing her to see if she can follow the rules, to see if she has changed, and to see if being locked up has taught her anything. It seems that Shanae could have lead a positive life because she ends up leaving Waxter Juvenile detention center, moving to a set down home, and final moving back home. She is determined to graduate from high school. She had a good support group with her mother even though they seem they didn’t want her back home right away. The mother really wants to teach her a lesson and to know that she had committed a very intense crime.
The only problem that might lead her away from a positive life is her mother died a couple of weeks after she returns home. Her mother was her biggest support and she loved her mother every much.
