Was The French Revolution A Success
In my opinion The French Revolution was a success. The middle class was influence
By the theories of Enlightenment and was familiar with the recent American Revolution. They fought for freedom and equality. In 1789 financial times were hard in France. The peasants were upset that the nobles were living lavish collecting taxes, while they suffered. The France social system was out of date and consisted of three Estates. The first Estates were the clergy, paid no taxes and lived a good easy life. The second estates were the nobles; they were separated into two groups. The third estates were separated into three classes and were one of the largest estates.

    French Revolution was from 1789 to late 1790s. The revolution was caused by cultural, financial, political and economic factors. The Enlightenment brought France new ideas; the bad financial crisis led Louis XVI implemented new taxation policies and reduced privileges, which increased the conflict in the society; for political, Louis XVI faced the resistance to royal reforms from privilege classes; economic market especially for the grain market was in disorder. All of these factors mixed to cause the appearance of French Revolution. It can be divided into four stages. As first stage was from 1788 to 1792, French elites articulated its grievances against the king. They refused taxation and attacked despotism supported Enlightenment-inspired program. In 1792, these tensions exploded into war and the beginning of the republic. The second was from 1792 to 1794, acute crisis, consolidation and repression happened in that period. The Terror did save the republic, but it exhausted itself and collapsed in 1794. Third stage was from 1794 to 1799, the government drifted and the state fell prey to a military leader Napoleon Bonaparte. Some historians also include the forth stage into the revolution, which was from 1799 to 1815. Napoleon’s rule was punctuated by astonishing victories and catastrophes and constitutes the end of the revolution. French Revolution is very important for changing the whole world’s social structure and culture. It accelerated the development of republics and democracies in Europe and other parts of the World by changing old traditions and expanding the arena of human rights. I choose Industrial Revolution and French Revolution for this question because both of them are significant milestones in the history in a earlier period comparing to other revolutions.     The upper bourgeoisie had more in common with the nobility, the former’s wealth often lead them to run within the same circles. While the bourgeoisie would resent the nobility for their exclusivity and political power, there was still a sense of aspiration towards them.     After the Assembly had been created, the lower class did not have representation. Although the lower class made up most of the population, the upper classes still won the vote because they were well represented. The lower class wanted equal representation.     France’s social structure was an aspect of society that majority of the French were greatly displeasured about. The social structure was very unbalanced during the Old Regime. The majority of the Third Estate third estate was going hungry and only as time went on poverty kept increasing. It was also clear that as time went on that the nobles and the clergy were only seeking more privileges than what they already had. As if the Third Estate couldn't have any more burdens put on their lives, there was also a food shortage occurring that would completely shock the whole nation. The harvest season the year before was so “disastrous” that it’s effects were greatly “felt” and because of that bread prices quickly rose (Price 77). When that occurred, the poverty stricken people had a difficult time trying to provide for themselves along with their families.
