other youth from the spiritual centre through which we organized “We Care We Share”, as well as actually cooked and served the food. The initiative has had a definite impact on both the spiritual centre through which it was organized, as well as the community of the impoverished. As the project expanded, the centre as a whole adopted it and gave even more youth the opportunity to participate in it. Furthermore, it paved the way for further service activities, such as food drives. The project also made its mark on the shelters and the community of the needy. Many times, those who were served the food would later describe to us their situation and their plans for achieving self-sufficiency. The project of serving hot food to the needy regularly had a positive impact on their hopes and their self-esteem, making it a total success. “We Care We Share” is very special to me, as it was my first service experience in which I held a leadership role, as well as the first initiative I conceived. Moreover, it was a reminder of how powerful helping others selflessly could be. The smiles I witnessed on the faces of those I served motivated me to continue serving the community, and inspired me to pursue a career serving others: medicine. I have experience establishing, organizing, and leading community service projects in small and large scales. At Queen’s, I will continue to volunteer my time and encourage others to do so as well, in order to direct, coordinate and expand projects benefiting those in need.
