We Real Cool
I like this poem also the poem helps you paint a picture in your head of what the speaker or poet was thinking. I think everyone can relate to this poem, not because of experience but it’s the things we see other people involved in with their everyday life. I like how the poet or writer used “we” to make the readers feel like they are a part of the poem as if they can see themselves doing the same stuff the poem speaks of. The poem We Real Cool was written in 1950 on page 521. I will try to explain the parts of this poem to help people understand my interpretation of it. By using the title, I didn’t struggle with taking the first line of the poem as friends or friendship when it states “The Pool Players”. I know a lot of friends usually get together and go shoot pool usually guys but some females enjoy it also. The words “real cool” make you believe the poem is talking about anyone who is in this group …show more content…
Always building memories and bond together as if you all knew each other forever. The life in the fast lane will eventually catch up to you and that’s why the last sentence to me go with the second line in this poem “seven at the Golden Shovel”. All seven friends will eventually meet up one day and have to be buried six feet under by using shovels. Life is short and it’s okay to enjoy your life and have fun but it’s also important to be careful. Live with no regrets because you never know when it’s your turn to go. Live life but don’t live recklessly. Everything you do will have a consequence for it. Too much drinking can lead to bigger problems and stay out late can get you in trouble sometimes. I hear a lot of people say they stay home to stay out of trouble. Cool was the word for how a group of people who do certain things likes having sex, drinking, skipping school, and not having a curfew. We Real Cool until like the other side of the

This poem is a poem that describes the life of a retired miner, how he faced the close encounter of death and lived through that experience to have a long fulfilling life. Each year I hoped they'd keep, knew they would not" all explain the deeper meaning of the poem. The metaphors project a message that means not all great things appear perfect when you get to know them better. The "blackberry" may stand for something lovely but it never remains lovely. The speaker uses "once off the bush" to explain that once the fruits are picked, the fruit will not remain the same. This could be a metaphor for anything in life once one takes advantage of something, then it will not last forever. By stating "I always felt like crying," the speaker shows that the event saddened and disappointed him and that he "hoped they'd keep, knew they would not" each year. This shows that as humans, we repeat ourselves or our actions even when we know the outcomes. Therefore, this shows that nothing can be perfect, last forever, or will always go our way. The similes "hard as a knot," "like a plate of eyes," and…

The poem is written in first person, presenting only one character?s point of view. The title is ironic. "We Real Cool" (3) is contradicting the last line, "We Die soon." (10) Every detail in her work is deliberate. The italicized introduction "The Pool Players. Seven at the Golden Shovel" (1,2) evokes a figurative meaning. The number seven, for example, signifies luck as pool players; while golden implies perfection. However, shovel reminds the reader of death. ?Brooks reveals the ignorance of the players in their speech. "We real cool," is missing the verb "are," so it is no surprise when the speaker says, "We Left School."(4) (Rubinstein) With these few words she uses language and rhythm to shows the players mental demeanor. As an example "we" is at the end of each line rather than at the beginning of the line; therefore emphasizing each one of the monosyllabic. That symbolizes the pool players lack the ability to communicate with words…

“Come on just one more, you’ll be fine!” This is just one tiny example of how one drink can turn into your last. To know your limit is the basis of knowing how far is exactly too far. The time may be fun in between the blackouts but the payment is far more than a nasty hangover the next day. The medical consequences with just one night of drinking can add up over time and shorten your life considerably. In the end all we ask for is more time and to be surrounded by the people you love. With the chances that you are a long life drunk your loved ones will be driven away with all your priorities set on your drinking habits. As the days turn into weeks in a row with you coming home drunk you could lash out on the people…

This poem has stood out to me ever since I first read it in the 7th grade, it has always been with me. Every time someone mentions a wheelbarrow I am instantly taken back to my 7th grade English class. I find that this poem is so memorable because it is short and seems simple but my teacher, at the time, first introduced this poem by giving everyone different slips of paper with words from the poem written on them. Her instructions were to put the papers into what we believed was the correct order for this poem. I found it especially hard because nothing seemed to truly fit together.…
