Society in GATTACA runs much differently than in the real world. Citizens are segregated by whether or not they were genetically advanced. Some upsides to this way of living are that people have perfect health and long, fulfilling lives. It is also shown in the movie that those who are advanced are respected and have high ranking jobs. People who were born with untouched genetics were considered unworthy of a lush life in society for not having perfect health. With the world already having the amount of discrimination that it does, adding another way to subliminally segregate people would only make it worse. This question, “If we were able to exclude the eccentric, the different, the misfits, and the weak, what would happen to society?” is said as if the different, weak and misfits were not already excluded. Throughout all of history, the aforementioned of a community have been looked down upon by the rest of society. Even today the world struggles to accept these people.
