No matter whether it was four, or forty people listening, she always gave 100%. The sound of my Aunt’s guitar playing reminds me of all the fond memories of visiting her as a child. The majority of my childhood memories are accompanied by the sound of my Aunt, Wendy Carmichael entertaining friends and family with the songs she had learnt.
“I’ve always found so much joy in entertaining her friends and family with the songs I had learnt,” She continues. Many years ago now, Wendy had utilised this new found passion of as an escape to power through the sometimes harsh reality.

“For months, I just practiced, and practiced and practiced until my fingers nearly bleed” She had finally discovered something she was really passionate about, and something she could use as an escape from all of the things happening in her life at the time. “I was probably 46 at the time, so it took me a long time to be able to get my fingers to move and change chords and things like that” Eventually, she had learnt to sing along with her guitar. “I thought “Well my playing isn’t very good so I better start learning some songs, at least if can sing along with them, they might be able to tell what I’m playing,” she laughs. Wendy found the music scene back over in Scotland to be absolutely fantastic, ‘You could go to a pub and there could be 30 musicians in the one pub at night playing along together” She believes that is what drove her to begin playing the guitar again, seeing people of all ages display such passion for music, whereas you don’t see it as much in Australia. “I actually miss that kind of music scene that you don’t get necessarily around here. I think young people are missing out, not having that cultural thing. The young people here don’t have that background that they do
