Western culture is a term used very broadly to refer to a heritage of social norms,ethical values, traditional customs, belief systems, political systems, and specific artifacts andtechnologies that have some origin or association with the western countries. every culture has its good and bad sides and so do western culture. So, it’s the duty of every individual to make use of it and not to misuse it.
The Western culture, not only in our country but throughout the world, is responsible to a great extent for bringing about development and change on social, economic, educational, scientific and many other fields, thus helping humankind to move towards progress. If one glances into the past, we find numerous examples where Western cultural ethos has helped to remove superstitions, fallacies and disastrous acts from our own culture.
Equality in gender. Women have the same rights as men. For example, Commonwealth leaders approved a change to the succession law, that is the first child of the preceding monarch, either a boy or a girl, can be the heir of the throne. However, in Malaysia, only males can succeed the throne and be the Sultan or Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The education systems in western countries. In those western countries, schools are more willing to devote resources, so students can learn more knowledge. They also encourage students to take part in cocuriculum activities. For example, in an university in the United States, there are two tutoring centers for students to ask for tutors assisting in homework from every subject. On the other side, education system in Asian countries tends to be exam-oriented. What teachers usually teach are examination skills but not learning skills. Some students even choose to give up their personal interest and spend more time on studies.
