Being at the top was an Enlightenment way to think which was Napoleon’s mindset. After the loss of his attempt to invade Russia, his power slowly began to decline. Which led to his exile to Elba, which he was living well and could’ve just stayed put but his enlightened way of thinking led him to his final downfall because he returned to France in an attempt to gain back his power. His soldiers were sent by Louis XVIII so that he could be captured but instead they sided along with Napoleon and thus the Hundred Days of his reign began. Napoleon lost his final battle at Waterloo against the Duke of Wellington which eventually lead to him being exiled to St. Helena an island in the South Atlantic Ocean.
Napoleon Bonaparte overall was a great ruler who turned France into a powerful country, the only flaw he had that lead to his downfall was his attitude. He felt as though he was more authoritative than the Pope. Many pieces of artwork created at this time illustrated him as being more dominant than God, which is how he portrayed himself.
