I, and many others, aren’t particularly pro abortion, we’re pro choices for women. I feel that women should have the right to do what they please with their own bodies. Although I personally feel this way, I do also feel that there are always alternatives. One of the most common reason for being pro abortion, is rape or incest. When a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, I can only imagine how difficult it would be to decide what to do with that child. This is when people most commonly say that they could understand a woman wanting to get an abortion. Although this is a very common scenario that people talk about, a survey in 2001 claimed that only one percent of abortions are caused by rape or incest. This is when I begin to see the side of being against abortion. The number one most common reason for abortion is the unpreparedness or the unreadiness of a child. The fetus is a human being from the moment of conception; this means abortion is murder, which is immoral and should be illegal. Some with this opinion feel that if the pregnancy is the result of carelessness on the mother’s part, she should have to deal with the consequences. It is ultimately her responsibility (as the partner who can become pregnant) to prevent pregnancy if both she and her male partner do not wish to conceive. Many with this opinion argue that it is against civil rights. The child that is being aborted does not deserve to have this happened. Some use the example that “ A five year old is not killed because its father is a rapist, therefore a five month old child should not be killed for the same reason.” Often, people tend to say that abortion is the “mother’s right” but those against abortion feel that a woman has no right whatsoever to kill her child.
In conclusion, I feel that abortion should ultimately be decided by the mother herself. On the other hand, I think that the mother should consider the other options before the final decision is made. There are many deviating opinions on abortion, but at the end of the day, whether a mother chooses to abort or not, she is the one that will have to decide how that choice will affect her the rest of her
