Undocumented Workers
Being an undocumented immigrant in the United States is hard, without the proper identification and legal status, undocumented immigrants have to work harder at being self-sufficient while maintaining a low profile. By being an illegal immigrant their opportunities are limited, work occupations are scarce depending on their location, and their biggest challenge is learning a whole, new language which is English. Unfortunately for the state of Oklahoma, the law backfired, causing a 1.3 percent loss in economic input and $1.3 billion in economic losses. Not only were the illegal immigrants affected but the US children born from illegal immigrants were restricted in getting federal aid for college and their access to public benefits. By creating a system in which the proper undocumented immigrants can apply and obtain legal status in the United States, the state of Oklahoma could see an increase in economic growth and employment. By legalizing immigrants, children born of undocumented immigrants will not have to go through the experience of a divided family as parents potentially become deported and lose their family and belongings (Source …show more content…
Between 2000 and 2013, the foreign-born population grew by more than 61 percent, placing Oklahoma’s non US-born population among the top 10 fastest growing in the country. Oklahoma’s 200,000 immigrants now occupy 5.5 percent of the state’s workforce, with immigrant entrepreneurs and consumers adding an estimated $8.2 billion to the state’s economy, Oklahoma would see a great benefit just by legalizing illegal aliens, they would be able to provide more revenue and provide more to the nation as well. By voting on an immigration reform, undocumented workers in Oklahoma will have more benefits including legal status, social securities, and proper identification (Source
