This all changed due to new inventions and protocols like: Bessemer process, mass production, railroads, interchangeable parts, etc. Due to the new processes and inventions many skilled labors were not needed any more because of the use of interchangeable parts and mass production allowed companies to use unskilled laborers for a lower price. The use of interchangeable parts and mass production also sped up the process of making that object requiring more people to work. Now men, women, and children were required to work help with the monthly bills of the household. The result of the new inventions and process was the materials were made faster, and for a cheaper price, causing the price for that object to go down. Many of the people who worked in the factories worked long days for low wages in dirty conditions. During the Second Industrial Revolution a new type of industry came into the making. The service industry was starting during this time and it included banking, hotels, retail, restaurants, etc. This new type of industry created new jobs which allowed the middle class to grow.
