In Athens girls would be taught at home until they were old enough to marry by her mother. Girls would marry in between the ages 14-18. Women would only stay at home to cook for their family, sew, clean, wash and organize the household and also raise their children. Women couldn´t get out of the house with no permission of the men in charge of the house, when they are really young the male in charge is her father, later when she is married it´s her husband in charge. In Sparta women had more freedom and lived a more normal life. They would also be taught at home by their mother´s until the age of six, then they would go to school and study “mousike” which consisted arts, music, poetry and dance. In their youth, they would also run around naked along with the boys and competed wrestling, gymnastics, foot and horse races, and also other required physical trials. Girls would also compete in gymnopaedia, a Spartan festival of naked youths. They could also learn how to become warriors, learn how to handle a weapon, learned skills and also how to kill, in a military school. This was partly because the Greek people had no money to pay to pay the workers with, and also because they had no clocks to measure the time to work. And also it’s cheaper to force people to work for them than to pay them. Most slaves were born as free people, but were then sold by their parents to other people at a young age (Children), regularly because their parents were too poor to sustain their Children so they sold them. Some slaves were captured by kidnappers or as prisoners of war like the Persians, Egyptians or Scythians. How great part of the jobs were occupied by the slaves, about one third of the Greek population were salves.
