bad thing about Rasputin was that he willingly and openly sinned which led to his drinking and erratic behavior which made him unstable. Macbeth, Grigori Rasputin, and Samson all had power and they used it to affect the people around them in very bad ways and to go against their fate.
Shakespeare’s play Macbeth is about a noble thane named Macbeth who attempts to alter fate, which he successfully does but with a lot of repercussions. Macbeth kills King Duncan because he wants to be the king and rule over the country of Scotland. After Macbeth kills King Duncan, he can no longer can think straight or function without thinking that someone is suspicious of him killing King Duncan so he starts killing these people off to try to clear his mind but instead is clouding it even more, digging a deeper hole for his conscious.
Macbeth at first was a noble knight that respected his king because he was a nice king who tended to the problems of his people. He is described as the model thane that all other king’s thanes should be like. "For brave Macbeth-well he deserves that name" (1.1.16) says that he is so brave that he deserves such a good title as being called brave. Macbeth got a promotion from King Duncan because King Duncan thought he deserved to be the Thane of Cawdor because of his noble actions and bravery when he was at war fighting for his country. Macbeth as a noble knight was respected by Banquo his best friend that was also a very noble knight in the same position as him. Banquo accepted his fate of not being king and just being a much respected knight unlike Macbeth.
Macbeth has an encounter with the three witches, and their fortune of him not becoming king “I dreamed last night of the three weird sisters: to you they have showed some truth” (2.1.33-35) Macbeth then admits that he is considering the witches’ fortune telling, but the thought of killing his king, King Duncan is scary and unnatural to him as stated in these quotes “This supernatural soliciting/Cannot be ill, cannot be good” (1.2.131-132). “Why do I yield to that suggestion / whose horrid image doth unfix my hair, / and make my seated heart knock at my ribs / against the use of nature?”(1.2.135-138) states that he is thinking to himself why does he keep dreaming about the three witches that don’t do anything for him but make him think about killing King Duncan. Banquo advises Macbeth not to trust the witches fully because they make a statement “Fair is foul, and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air.” (1.1.12-13) which says that anything good is bad and anything bad is good which means that the three witches are not good people. Banquo says “The instruments of darkness tells us truths, win us honesty trifles, to betray in deepest consequence” (1.3.125-128) says that the three witches are not trustworthy and says that if they want our trust to prove it to us.
Macbeth has a lot of internal and external conflict going on between the times of him getting home from war to killing King Duncan between the three witches and Lady Macbeth.
Macbeth pictures killing King Duncan with a dagger, “Is this a dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee, I have thee not, and yet I see thee still. Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible / to feeling as to sight? Or art thou but / A dagger of the mind, a false creation, / Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain? (2.1.33). Macbeth is also influenced by Lady Macbeth; Macbeth is getting influenced the most from his wife than the three witches because he loves and cares for his wife. Lady Macbeth says “Glamis thou art, and Cawdor; and shalt be / What thou art promised. Yet I do fear thy nature; it is too full o' the milk of human kindness / to catch the nearest way” (1.5.16-17) Lady Macbeth says that Macbeth does not believe her husband can take the throne and its power for himself because he is too kind.
After killing King Duncan Macbeth becomes the King of Scotland and goes on to kill anybody suspicious of his wrong doings. Macbeth kills Banquo because Banquo feels that Macbeth became king the wrong way. Macbeth hires two murderers to kill Banquo which was successful. That night they had a dinner with everyone invited including Banquo, at the dinner Macbeth sees Banquo’s ghost and describes it as white and transparent, “Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold. Thou hast no speculation in those eyes which thou dost glare with!” (3.4.95-97). Macbeth sends a messenger to go kill MacDuff but he has gone to England to assist Malcolm. Instead the murderers kill MacDuff’s wife and son. Macbeth feels this regret but try’s to block it out which doesn’t work but instead try’s to cover it up by killing more people. Am in blood Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more, Returning were as tedious as go o'er.” (3.4.137-139). In conclusion Macbeth was clouded by the idea of having power and how controlling everything is always good. Macbeth was a very noble thane towards the king, until his encounter with the witches and his wife wanting to be in high authority did it ever cross his mind about killing the king to become king himself. Macbeth in the end became very reckless and careless towards everyone. For example in the beginning of the play he said "This have I thought good to deliver thee, my dearest partner of greatness, that thou mightst not lose the dues of rejoicing, by being ignorant of what greatness is promised thee"(1.5.10-13). Which says that he has good news to deliver because he knows that she would like the idea of being Queen, he also calls her, his “Dearest partner of greatness”. At the end of the story after Macbeth has become king and after he hears the news about Lady Macbeth killing herself all he says is "She should have died hereafter; / There would have been a time for such a word" (5.5.17-18). Macbeth in this quote says that he has no time to mourn her death and that she should have died later on so that he would be able to talk to her, but his emotion seemed unfazed by the tragic death of his wife. As you can see there was a lot of change in character from the beginning of the play to the end, from deep love to not caring about a “Loved” ones death. Macbeth and Grigory Rasputin both are men that start of at a very good position in their life as highly respected people.
Macbeth takes advantage of people who trust in him just as Rasputin does. Gregory Rasputin born in Pokrovskoye, Siberia, January 10, 1869. According to the Encyclopedia of Russian History Rasputin was the son of Yefim a prosperous and literate peasant (Page 1). When Grigory was young he was very troubled. Getting married did not appease him but sexual relations with many different women did. This was a problem because that shows that he is not a good man due to his way of living life. Rasputin’s decision to frivolously go to other women tells you that his personality is already not of good intentions. Rasputin’s appealing personality, eyes, and memory of biblical passages made him a local religious leader because he was able to appeal to the rite people and manipulate them by making himself look good in front of the right people. According to Enid A. Goldberg and Norman Itzkowitz, by 1906, Rasputin had a reputation as a healer. That fall, Rasputin was invited to the Czar’s palace for the first time. He tried to calm their fears about the future. They would survive the protest he said. Then Rasputin was introduced to the two-year-old boy Alexis. Rasputin blessed the sick child with the icon of Simeon, Miraculously the boy was healed (Page 74). According to the Russian encyclopedia, Rasputin would tell her that she and the Czar needed to be closer to their people, and that they should see him more often and trust him, because he would not betray them. To him they were equal to God, and he would always tell them the truth, not like the ministers, who don’t care about people and their tears (Pg.1). Alexandra believed that he was sent to the royal family by God, to protect the dynasty. Between 1906 and 1914 politicians and journalist used Rasputin’s association with the Royal family to weaken the dynasty’s credibility and push for reform. As Russia went into World War I, Grigory predicted that disaster would go over the country of Russia. The Russian Czar Nicholas II took control of the Russian army in 1915 and Alexandra took responsibility for domestic policy. Alexandra as Rasputin’s defender dismissed and ministers that were suspicious or the “Mad Monk”. Some government officials tried to warn her of Rasputin’s influence but she continued to defend him anyway thinking that Rasputin was her closest advisor.
According to Enid A. Goldberg and Norman Itzkowitz the downfall of Rasputin started on December 29th, 1916 when a group of conspirators invited Rasputin to diner. Where they fed him wine and cakes laced with cyanide. The poisons seemed to have no effect on him, when they realized that they continued to repeatedly beat him and ended up shooting him several times. He was then wrapped in a carpet and thrown in the Neva River. An autopsy showed that there was water in Rasputin’s lungs at the time of death and was concluded that he died by drowning. (Pg. 117-120) Shortly before the death of Rasputin he wrote to the Czar that if he were killed by government officials, the entire imperial family would be killed by the Russian people. His prophecy came true fifteen months later when the Czar, his wife and all of their children were killed by assassins during the Russian Revolution. The reason Rasputin Was hated among the nobles, especially Nicholas’s family was that he appeared to be a drunk and dirty man who intruded his way into the royal family.
Rasputin was a very good man because of his healing powers and willingness to help people as in his early life where he went to go live in a monastery to learn about God and to Train to be God like, but when he helped Alexandra and saw that he could get away with anything because of her devotion to help him, he used her to his advantage.
Rasputin does a good job at analyzing people and looks at things he could say or do to pursued them or manipulate them to do things that he wants to do and that’s where he creates sin and is in the wrong. When he accomplished getting full trust from Alexandra he started doing things that he wouldn’t be able to do with the royal family. He became private adviser to the Romanovs and also became an influential figure in Saint Petersburg, especially after August 1915 when Czar Nicolas II took command of the army. When he became private advisor there was a lot of controversy so the press started a campaign against Rasputin, claiming he paid too much attention to young girls and women. This statement made by the press did not help him since he has had a long history of doing

Macbeth and Rasputin are very alike in ways of being very respectful and very noble to being very manipulative. Macbeth and Rasputin early on were very respectful and noble people, Rasputin was a healer that magically healed people and animals of their sickness and he did this out of good nature. Macbeth was a very noble knight that fought for his country and fought for his king very boldly and bravely which makes him one of the greatest knights King Duncan has had. Macbeth and Rasputin both turned corrupt and affected many people. Macbeth for example affected the country of Scotland because he killed many innocent and noble people and also started a war within the country. This is very bad because once does not kill innocent people and take their lives away from their families just because you are paranoid because you became king in the wrong manner. Rasputin on the other hand found an opening in Alexandra’s heart where he knew he can slide in and pretty much control her because she was being thankful and appreciative of the thing that Rasputin has done for her. To take advantage of someone’s kindness is a terrible thing because they are opening up to you, and letting you into their heart and exposing all their weakness’s, and that’s what Rasputin saw going on and he knew that so he took advantage of the situation and became a high figure in the royal family.
