Mathematics is used throughout the world as an essential tool in many fields, including natural sciences, engineering, medicine, and the social sciences.The study of mathematics is also regarded as a compulsory part of our education. In my opinion, studying math can instill in students the value of our own culture and history, cultivate our development of logical thinking and stimulate growth of society as well. However, the study of math does not always bring benefits back, it may let people put too much faith on math statistics and it may make students lose their interests in math study due to excess rigid demands.
First of all, it is important for people to realize that education can transit cultural value to us and the study of mathematics posses a remarkable position in education system. So, mathematics can be a tool to enhance our understanding of cultural heritage. This can be seen in China, the oldest systematic math originated from Zhan guo period. A book called ”Mo Jing” recorded many definitions and math ideology. Through the study of math, we can find out famous mathematicians like Liu Yi, Zhu Shijie and Shen Kuo so as to learn the history of math and prompt our understanding of Chinese culture. As we can see, learning math can transit the culture and academic heritage.
In the second place, calculation is believed to be an intrinsic skill and math may be the most basic course we should master. In addition, applied math can also exercise our brains more flexible and grow logical thinking so that help us in the future life. For instance, the Apple corporation leader, Steve Jobs, even if he had not finished his study in University, he did a big success in IT area based on his logical and creative thinking. This tells us that the study of mathematics will develop our multiple competencies so that it could flexibly adapt to and widen our opportunities in the future life and not just helping us
