What Causes Anxiety In America
In today's society more than 40 million people deal with anxiety in their daily lives. This mental illness has become the most common mental illness in the U.S. Many people who have anxiety do not go to the doctor or seek help. Anxiety Disorder is a terrible mental illness effecting 18 percent of the population. There are many different kinds of anxiety disorders that people can have. The effects of this illness can vary. Many treatments are also offered to those who seek help. Although many people have this disorder, there is still a commonly asked question of "why" (Anxiety Disorders Mental Health).

The symptoms are very prevalent. The emotional symptoms are mostly feelings of apprehension, restlessness, and anticipation. Some physical symptoms include a racing heart, shortness of breath, or an upset stomach. There are many more symptoms people with anxiety suffer from (Anxiety Disorders).
3) What are the different kinds of anxiety? The term "anxiety disorder" includes all forms of anxiety. There are many different kinds of anxiety a person can deal with. Some kinds of anxiety are Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety and more. Each disorder deals with anxiety in a different way. Some disorders can be more extreme than others (Anxiety Disorders Mental Health).
4) How is anxiety caused? Anxiety disorders can be caused by many different things. Anxiety disorders are genetic which means they can run in families. Neurological factors are also a reason for these disorders. Although many causes for anxiety are medical related, it is possible to form the disorder from an event. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a kind of anxiety that is caused by witnessing a traumatic event in a persons life. Anxiety affects both men and women quite equally. 6.8 million Americans (3.1%) are affected with general anxiety disorder (also known as GAD). GAD is anxiety that is present in everyday life. This is also one of the leading causes of depression (Smith).
13.) How is anxiety diagnosed? Anxiety is usually diagnosed when a doctor first notices that the patient is showing signs of anxiety. The doctor will then use an evaluation sheet to go over previous medical information and will then conduct a physical exam. The doctor does not specifically diagnose the disorder because no lab test can do so (Anxiety Disorders).
14..) Can anxiety cause permanent symptoms? Anxiety can't cause permanent symptoms. However, there are things that can trigger symptoms of anxiety, such as caffeine and certain medications. Symptoms of anxiety worsen with the consumption of caffeine. Some medications can either increase or decrease symptoms of anxiety. If correctly prescribed, nonaddictive medications can safely decrease anxiety symptoms (Get Help With Anxiety Disorders).
