Cognitive Behavioral Therapy For Anxiety
Anxiety Disorders affect 17% of America's population (these numbers only include people who have been diagnosed). Many people who suffer from anxiety are not aware of the many options for treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, grounding meditation, and different medication options. Anxiety has a great impact on psychology, and America in general, because America as a whole spends 42 billion dollars a year on treating anxiety. There are several different forms of anxiety including General anxiety, Panic attack anxiety, Social anxiety, Post Traumatic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ,and specific phobias. Each form of anxiety can be treated with the similar methods, but there are methods that …show more content…
DBT helps patients to be aware of these emotions, yet control the actions that they do to express the emotions. With this therapy clients work to stay in the moment and focus on the present time rather than worrying and being anxious about what will happen next. Some of the activities presented in DBT are counting to ten, breathing exercises, and sensational exercises. Some patients find Dialectal Behavioral Therapy to be more beneficial than Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because they found it beneficial to focus on where they were right now instead of putting more emphasis on changed thoughts and …show more content…
There are three main medication options doctors resort to when their patients have anxiety disorders. Those medications are antidepressants, anti anxiety medications, and beta blockers. According, to Dr. Rollyn Ornstein of Hershey, doctors are more likely to prescribe antidepressants because they are not addictive. However, depending on the patient's needs/ requests doctors do often prescribe other types of medication. Medication alone can not be used to cure anxiety..
