Specific Purpose: To inform audiences about what Generalized Anxiety Disorder is.
OUTLINE
I. Introduction
Do you live with constant worry about future, or always feel anxious without reasons? Everybody feel anxious but not always. If your worries and fears are persistent and interfere with your daily life, you may have generalized anxiety disorder.

year. Women are twice as likely to be affected.
II. Body
A. Definition of General Anxiety Disorder
a. According to Mayo Clinic, it is normal to feel anxious from time to time, especially if your life is stressful. However, excessive, ongoing anxiety and worry that interfere with day-to-day activities may be a sign of generalized anxiety disorder.
I will go more in-depth on the symptoms, complications, and treatment of Generalize anxiety disorder.
B. Symptoms of General Anxiety Disorder
a. Excessive worrying
i. People with general anxiety disorder usually live with their concerns for the life time and are unable to get rid of them, even though they know their anxiety is more intense than expected for situations.
b. Difficulty in concentration
i. They can’t relax, startle easily, and have difficulty concentrating.
c. Irritability
i. This excessive worrying makes you anxious. All these symptoms make you unable to relax or enjoy your time. As this worrying goes on every day, it can produce irritability.
d. Difficulty in sleeping
i. They often have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.
e. Headaches
i. Physical symptoms that often go together with the anxiety include fatigue, headaches, muscle tension, muscle aches, difficulty swallowing, trembling, twitching, irritability, sweating, nausea, lightheadedness and feeling out of breath.
C. Complications of General Anxiety Disorder
a. If people with GAD are not treated appropriately, people can have complications. According to Mayo Clinic, GAD can also lead to or worsen other mental and physical health conditions, such as
i. Depression ii. Insomnia iii. Substance abuse
b. There are many ways to treat or decrease your anxiety. One of the treatments is
D. Treatments of General Anxiety Disorder
a. Psychotherapy
i.
This is known as talk therapy or psychological counseling. Therapist will work with people with GAD to reduce anxiety symptoms. Another form of psychotherapy is cognitive-behavioral therapy. This is a short-term treatment and focuses on teaching people about specific skills to cope with anxiety. ii. Also, there are medications to treat generalized anxiety disorder.
b. Medication
i. Antidepressants
1. According to Helpguide, antidepressants such as Zoloft are used in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder. However, effects of medications are not immediate, it may take up to six weeks to check effectiveness of medications.
c. Change in life style
i. With therapies and medications, life style changes can give people positive effects to reduce anxiety symptoms.
1. People may ease their anxiety by being physically active, eating healthy food, having enough sleep, stop smoking or drinking coffee, or using relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation, avoiding alcohol
III. Conclusion
A. Early treatments can prevent people from getting worse. Based on information that I provided, you can check early signs and symptoms of GAD and if you think you have GAD, you can go to a physician for accurate diagnosis. Also, you can try some of treatment methods to control your anxiety.
